SANY Group joins hands with Zero Carbon Logistics to build a new chapter of green transport in Africa. At the end of July, China SANY Group successfully held a meaningful event in SANY’s Premium Customer Summit for Africa BU2024. At the event, SANY and Zero Carbon Logistics signed a forward-looking Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), marking a solid step forward in promoting the green transport revolution in Africa.
The core highlight of this MOU is that SANY Group will act as the technology backbone to fully support Zero Carbon Logistics in building the first off-grid electric truck charging network on the N3 Electric Highway in South Africa. This is not only a bold attempt in green transport in South Africa, but also an important milestone in the global electric vehicle charging infrastructure layout.
Zero Carbon Logistics' vision is to build an electric vehicle charging network that covers South Africa, enabling heavy-duty electric truck drivers to traverse the vast expanse of the country without worry. The first six renewable energy charging stations are planned for the N3 route between Johannesburg and Durban, a busy corridor that carries more than 8,576 trucks per day, and will be the first to go green.
The cooperation between the two parties goes far beyond this. The MOU also envisions an ambitious vision for the two companies to jointly introduce and promote advanced electric truck and battery technology from overseas in the South African market, with the aim of accelerating the transition to the clean energy era in South Africa and across the African continent.
Mr Joubert Roux, the co-founder of Zero Carbon Logistics, has high hopes for the partnership: "We are honored to be working side by side with SANY to develop and operate the first solar-powered truck charging stations along the N3 highway. SANY's technological prowess and design innovation will ensure that these charging stations will not only provide an ultra-high-speed, seamless green charging experience but will also be able to fully charge a truck in as little as 20 minutes or replace a battery in 5 minutes, revolutionizing the efficiency and experience of long-distance electric transport."
In recent years, SANY Heavy Industry has invested heavily in the research and development of electric heavy machinery and supporting facilities, with remarkable results. Currently, the company has four charging and switching station solutions adapted to the needs of different scales, which can flexibly meet the charging needs of 5 to 200 electric vehicles. In the past year, SANY has even launched more than 40 new electric products and achieved sales revenue of about US$440 million, demonstrating its firm pace and strong strength on the road to electrification transformation.
In addition, SANY Heavy Industry actively responds to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, not only plowing deep into the field of construction machinery, but also actively expanding wind power, photovoltaic, hydrogen energy, energy storage, and other new energy fields, to provide global customers with a full range of integrated green energy solutions, and to help build a cleaner, low-carbon world of the future.
The cooperation between SANY Group and Zero Carbon Logistics has undoubtedly injected a strong impetus to the development of green transport in Africa, and the two parties will work together to create a new era of green transport in Africa and even the world.
